Detailed Knowledge Folded into a Fascinating Story!

"Our ask was to give us a two-hour highlight tour of the Egyptian collection at the British Museum ahead of an upcoming tour of the Nile and Gavin exceeded our expectations. He had detailed knowledge of every artifact we stopped in front of and provided us with a concise history of what we will be seeing live in the next few weeks. Gavin also provided us with insights of the museum and showed us some items that were currently in the news that were fascinating."

British Museum Private Tour

A visit to the British Museum is the  best way to dive deep into thousands of years of global history.

As the world’s first national public museum, a British Museum private tour offers visitors a chance to travel to Ancient Greece, Assyria and Egypt, and to different continents of the world all under one roof. In just a couple of hours you will experience an unbelievable collection of objects that tell the important tale of a world-long gone.

I've been coming here since I was a little boy and would love to share with you this fascinating and important world museum.

So what are you waiting for? Come and immerse yourself in two million years of human history, art and culture with a private tour!

Duration: Half day tour

Availability: Daily

Key Attractions of the British Museum:

  • Egyptian Galleries: The Egyptian Galleries have much to offer from Ancient Egypt, with the ground floor being full of large monuments. The first and probably the most famous object is the Rosetta Stone.

  • Assyrian Gallery: The British Museum has some impressive artefacts from Assyria, Mesopotamia. When entering the exhibition you are greeted by two winged bulls of Korshabad, who once stood guard over an ancient city ruled by the last great Assyrian king.

  • Parthenon Gallery: This room transports you to ancient Greek civilization, where you find yourself surrounded by artefacts from the famous Parthenon in Athens. What started as a temple was turned into a Christian church and also a Muslim mosque.

  • Living and Dying Gallery: This gallery deals with life and death and how different cultures deal with staying healthy. my favourite display is the large glass case in the middle of the room. On closer inspection you’ll recognise many pills and medicines; the display shows how much an average British person will consume during their life!

  • Europe and Britain Gallery: Sutton Hoo Treasures: Finds from a 7th-century Anglo-Saxon ship burial, including helmets and armour.

Highlights of a private tour of the British Museum:

  • Discover the story of the British Museum and how it came to be. How did the British acquire (and keep) so many priceless items? Plus, discover what the role of the museum is in the world today.

  • Marvel at the Rosetta Stone, the key to unlocking translation. But how did archaeologists work out its significance?

  • See the Parthenon Marbles, which give us an insight into life in Ancient Greece.

  • The Egyptian Mummies - a highlight on anyone’s itinerary. Discover these fascinating works of art from the wraps to the sarcophagi - why were they used? how can we tell the difference between different lives people led in Egypt?

  • The Sutton Hoo Mask - one of the most important discoveries ever made in Britain.

  • The Lewis Chessmen - Commonly called the most famous chess pieces in the world, these 900-year-old need to be seen to be believed.

  • Plus so much more. The British Museum was the first national public museum in the world, and has fascinating stories and secrets around every corner.

Why not extend the tour to explore the area around The British Museum, to include the West End and Covent Garden. Or instead combine this tour with The National Galley or a panoramic tour of London in a private chauffeured vehicle, finishing with a tour of The Tower of London.
